Teaching at Kendall College of Art & Design
I teach a graduate course called Design Communication Management and an undergraduate class called Dialogue and Personality. In both of these courses, we study how people think, learn and collaborate. Students explore a range of topics and conversations. Together we tackle tough problems and strive to understand how working with different personalities and learning styles affects the creative process.
Students create a semester long project that will challenge them to think beyond their current skill set. They select an idea, define the problem, identify their stakeholders, test theories and design solutions ending in a final group project and presentation.
In a room of diverse skills and a range of personalities, we push for understanding in defining our goals. Facing conflict is a regular occurrence. However through collaboration and honest dialogue we work together to overcome adversity. We ask provocative questions. We encourage research and discovery and dialogue. This means as team members, we strive to listen to others with empathy, set aside our assumptions and treat others as equals.
